Join us on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 5:30 PM at UQAM campus for our third meetup of the year to hear Dr. Peter E. Chen, Research Fellow at McGill (Genome Centre / Microbiology & Immunology / International TB Centre) discuss “Hunting for Causal Variants in Microbial Genomes.”
A central goal of biology is to understand how DNA, the primary sequence, gives rise to observable traits. Although considerable effort has been invested in developing methodologies for genetic mapping in eukaryotic genomes, prokaryotic and viral genomes have only recently featured. In this session of MonBUG, Dr. Chen will introduce the nascent field of microbial genetic mapping, focusing on the latest in microbial genome-wide association studies and the complementary use of large-scale perturbation experiments. He will also share results from applications of these methods to both bacterial and viral genomes, including their hunt for epistatic mutations that resensitize drug-resistant tuberculosis cells to first-line antibiotics.
📍 Exact UQAM campus address will be announced soon.
🍻 The talk will be followed by a networking session.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
