Speaker: Virginie Calderon, PhD

Affiliation: IRCM

Talk Title: Transmission of hepatitis C from mother to child during pregnancy, and a new method to detect codon reassignments in genomes

Abstract:

She will be presenting the research she did during her post-PhD on the transmission of hepatitis C with Dr. Souydens at Ste-Justine, and her research on codon reassignments with Dr Mabrouk, Dr Lang (UdeM), and Dr Blanchette (McGill).

Biography

Virginie Calderon is the new head of the bioinformatics core facility at the IRCM. She will also be assisting us in holding the MonBUG meetings at the IRCM.

Speaker: Janosch Ortmann, PhD

Affiliation: Centre de recherches mathématiques, Université de Montréal

Talk Title: Determining the optimality regions of the alignment space

Abstract:

He will be presenting his research on sequence alignments.

Having a mathematician present at MonBUG is an opportunity for us to increase collaborations between mathematicians and bioinformaticians. Janosch is particularly interested in exchanging with bioinformaticians on practical applications of his research in genomics.

Biography

Janosch Ortmann is a mathematician, a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre de recherches mathématiques of the Université de Montréal.

Speaker: Steven Hébert, MsC

Affiliation: Lady Davis Institute

Talk Title: Using Docker to distribute your bioinformatics programs

Abstract:

He will be presenting Docker, which has become a commonly used tool to distribute bioinformatics programs in different environments.

Biography

Steven Hébert is a bioinformatics analyst at the Lady Davis Institute, in the lab of Dr. Kleinman.
