Talk Title: Epigenome disruption in childhood brain cancer
Abstract:
Many cancers are driven by mutations that affect the epigenome: the genetics of epigenetics. For the past few years, we have been studying mutations that directly affect the lysine 27 and 36 residues (K27M and K36M) of the histone H3. Those mutations occur primarily in paediatric cancers, and disrupt the histone trimethylation marks, H3K27me3 and H3K36me3. I will introduce the topic and give some historical background on the discovery and context of those lesions. Then, in more detail, I will talk about our recent work on cell models and functional (epi)genomic profiling of the downstream effects of those mutations on the epigenome and the transcriptome.
